Hoods 4 - Parks

Like I've been saying, it's intense zonage. This was a park on a ridge about 5 minutes from where was Bosco was living. Some intense trails on a ridge. An old man stopped me (I think he wanted to practice his English). He said I was the only white person he'd ever seen in that park.

Seoul Grand Park. Somehow, they found an entire valley of green between the hills of mondocondo skyscrapper hell. You get the illusion that you are surrounded by green nearly indefinitely. In the sculpted part of the part there's an art gallery, zoo, and amusement park (SeoulLand). Spacious promenades, wooded picnic areas next to a man-made lake, and generally built for a weekend distraction. So, it's spacious and pleasant during the week and wall-to-wall people on the weekends...

As we came out of the subway station at the edge of Seoul Grand Park, the walkway was lined with old women sitting next to big, burbling kettles, calling "Bendaegi, Bendaegi, Bendaegi..." Chris (Bosco) was pretty adamant that we get some, so we parted with a few hundred won and got a dixie cup full of Bendaegi. I looked up the literal translation of "Bendaegi" and I got the word "Chrysalis". Ya, so that's where this is going... These are apparently silk worm larvae. And I'm glad I ate a couple before I actually took a good look at them -- the insectoid proto-mouth made a few of my muscles contract involuntarily. Decided that I should eat a third for the camera. Punk Rock Gen claims the picture isn't sufficient proof, but let me tell you, that post-pop silty grit between the teeth won't be soon forgotten.
